The building of Deus Ex Machina’s Emporium of Postmodern Activities will be remembered as one of the most awesome construction endeavors in the history of mankind; so long as that history dates back exactly one week from today and precludes any construction that occurred the same week outside 1001 Venice Blvd. Disclaimer aside, it was still a very big, very intense, lift with your legs, sweat through your shirt type deal. General Managers Julian Heppekausen and Ben Monroe, along with Deus senior varsity member Stefan Wigand oversaw the transformation of the former florist into a wonderland of wood, glass, concrete, metal, gasoline, fiberglass, foam, leather, fabric, and naturally, flowers. Ramland Construction crew members Gordo (The Screw Up), Juan (The Carpenter), and his silent partner (we’re still trying to figure out his name) absolutely knocked it out of the park under the watchful eye of their suave supervisor, Mike (The Potty Mouth). Also, big props go out to our concrete wizard, Giulliano. And we would be doing ourselves a serious disservice if we didn’t thank Deus freshmen class members Spencer Hayes, Paul Liddle, and Nevin Pontus, who hammered, lifted, ditch dug, and belt sanded their blood and guts into the heart of The Emporium. It takes a village, they say. We’re not exactly sure what this means, but we think it has something to do with the most awesome construction endeavor in the history of mankind.
